complacency

watching the Leader's Debate 2007 on Sunday (between Mr Howard and Mr Rudd) for the upcoming elections, got me thinking.

firstly, i must make it clear i'm not THAT into politics, i know enough to tell you who's my current prime minister, the US president, UK and Aust's PM. that's about it. haha!! :) enough to strike a superficial conversation without appearing as a "frog in a well".

the live debate, however, was really quite interesting.. although it revolved around taxes, and interest rates etc.. what was more interesting was how it was presented. i must say, Mr Rudd is very eloquent in his speech, with tons of statistics and references to back every point he made. very impressive. Mr Howard however, hmm.. coming from a PM of 11.5 years.. not quite the way i remember him to be.

the word complacency came to mind.

and i wondered, if Mr Rudd were to win the elections, will he end up like that as well? of course, he has to work harder now, because he has nothing to "prove" except promises of what he can do IF he were to be elected.

similarly, God reminded me to not be complacent.. it doesn't mean once u're "up there" u can slack off (up there can be at whatever stage i am in with my walk with God). the higher i go, the more responsibilities i have, the busier i get; that's when I shld be MORE in touch with God. always ready, always geared. by spending time with Him, meditating on His word, seeing what He sees, wanting what He wants.. "break my heart for what breaks yours" is that merely singing, because it's a nice song? or am i (are we?) singing with conviction..

1 Corinthians 10:12

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
